Ratusan mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) Meruya, Jakarta Barat menggelar aksi unjuk rasa di depan gedung rektorat pada senin (29/6).
Aksi ini dilakukan karena tidak adanya jawaban dari pihak kampus dalam memperhatikan mahasiswa yang terkena dampak pandemi.
Koordinator lapangan aksi Ahmad Fachrudin mengatakan, “Dimasa pandemi membuat dampak ekonomi Indonesia terjun bebas, hingga berdampak pada sektor pendidikan. Mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana tidak semua berlatar belakang yang memiliki ekonomi yang keatas, bahkan sebagian besar mahasiswa di dalamnya dilatarbelakangi oleh keluarga yang memiliki ekonomi menengah kebawah, tetapi mereka memiliki semangat belajar yang tinggi”, tandasnya.
Mereka menuntut adanya pengembalian Biaya Penyelenggaraan Pendidikan (BPP) karena hak-hak yang tidak diperoleh selama belajar dari rumah akibat pandemi virus Corona. Tuntutan itu dianggap manusiawi karena orang tua mahasiswa banyak yang terdampak bahkan kehilangan pekerjaan.
“Kita juga bicara kemanusiaan, kan itu bisa memperpanjang napas hidup kita di tengah pandemi ini,” ujarnya.
Selain itu beberapa alasan kenapa perlu adanya pengembalian BPP tersebut. Pertama, biaya operasional kampus berkurang signifikan semenjak diberlakukan work from home (WFH). Alasan lain sebagai mahasiswa tidak bisa memanfaatkan lagi fasilitas kampus.
Ahmad Fachrudin berharap pihak kampus mendengar aspirasi mahasiswa dengan menggunakan hati nurani untuk menurunkan BPP. “Kami menuntut keadilan yang selama ini tidak pernah diberikan oleh kampus. Terutama saat krisis dan kritis pada masa pandemi ini”.
Pihaknya menyayangkan selama pandemi COVID-19, kampus hanya memberikan penangguhan perihal pembayaran, tanpa memikirkan kemampuan mahasiswa untuk dapat membayarnya.
Dalam aksi unjuk rasa ini mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana meminta transparansi pembayaran BPP dan SKS selama pandemi, memberikan kompensasi berupa pemotongan biaya perkuliahan, memberikan subsidi kuota internet untuk menunjang perkuliahan, dan diadakannya Audiensi Terbuka Dalam Pembuatan Kebijakan.
